Start

New owners, Gary and Philip bought the Tor Croft at the end of 2019 with the intention of creating an upmarket boutique experience that was step change from the standard B&B offering that exists in the Bay area.

The main focus has been the bar & lounge area, dining room and entrance lobby and staircase. A full design scheme including decoration and bespoke joinery for a new bar along with lighting suggestions and trade liaisons which all lead to providing advice on room settings, picture hanging and accessories.

Even at Christmas the old lounge and bar lacked atmosphere.
The existing bar disppeared in the bland decoration and confused details.
In the bar seating area there is no joy, cluttered seating. Not a plcae to linger.
Standard and poorly sited storage does not make the most of a wide range of drinks nor entice the guest.

Process

The brief revolved around inspiration from the couple love of Japanise artwork and imagry reflecting this within the classic Victorian holiday villa.

A few key issues needed addressing. The bar room had no real focus, being side on to the min seating area, it had no presence. The lighting was poor or lighting with a clostropobic combination of stools and tub chairs.

Functionally the working side of the bar was tight, with very poor levels of both storage and bottle display. This all led to a cluttered unwelcoming environment.

Bland decoration and furniture in the main seating area held no appeal to stay.

By turning the bar to face the main seating area it and using a dramatic gold backed wallpaper on the back wall, we created a focus to the room. Simple kitchen wall cabinets formed a base for storage ontop of which a bespoke underlit, stepped bottle display units added to the visual welcome.

Supporting paint colours and fabrics on furniture complemented the bar and tie in with the clients art work and budget to provide an interesting, comortable and stylish places to unwind, relax and linger.

Wall colours combined with the new owners personal effects, vibrant fabrics chocies and new light.
Turnng the bar to face the lounge allows a dramatic wallpaper react with the light for drama and interest.
Atmosphere created with colurs, lights and funiture.

Further advice on finishes and furniture have since created a cohesive style for the business, helping Gary & Philip being given a rating award from Tripadvisor in 2021.

Underlight stepped bottle display not only creates interest but it's now far easier to choose and serve a drink.
