Start

Southampton FC sought to enhance their stadium matchday entrance. Revisionr was commissioned to develop a design that could be implemented during the off-season, while also ensuring the completion of a designated area for a pre-season tournament midway through the project.

The design and preliminary budget were delivered within 10 weeks of the initial brief. the resultant work allowed for the mid off-season tournament to be held and overall the project was completed on time for the start of the season.

Process

Initially, a substantial reception desk occupied the center the space, disrupting flow and prominently displaying club branding through crests on various surfaces red walls, and a collection of paintings that contributed to a cluttered and outdated environment.

The design approach focused on simplifying the finishes and materials. By employing the same large-format porcelain tile for both floors and walls, we enhanced the visual impact of the space while streamlining the installation process.

By reducing the size of the reception desk and relocating it to the side, we minimized confusion for ticketless guests, facilitating the exit for those with tickets. This adjustment also established a de facto security position for a door leading to restricted areas of the stadium, with barriers positioned at the lift end for ticket entry control.

This newly balanced layout enabled efficient ticket pickup when necessary and ensured a seamless flow to the barriers and suites above.

We removed the existing suspended ceiling and standard lighting, introducing a plasterboard ceiling that followed the curve of the glazed frontage, featuring a stepped profile that accommodated an LED light-changing system. This allowed the club to implement color effect lighting in accordance with their branding requirements.

Furthermore, this new ceiling not only created a more expressive transition between the two ceiling levels but also avoided any modifications to the extensive HVAC system running through the ceiling void above the reception.

This was the first project successfully completed in the stadium. Other facilities include the staff café situated beneath the tiered seating, executive office spaces, and a number of suites that offer views of the River Itchen.
